Wednesday, Jan. 18, is the first day candidates can file for the May 6 Athens City Council election.

The positions of Mayor and Council Member, Place 1 are on the ballot this year.

Candidate packets can be picked up from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the City Secretary's Office at City Hall, 508 E. Tyler Street, Athens.

The deadline for filing is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17.
