Valve Replacement Could Temporarily Cause Cloudy Water

The Athens Utility Department completed an important valve replacement project Wednesday night that changed the route drinking water moves from the Treatment Plant into the City. This change will increase the flow of water through pipelines that have had very little use for years and is expected to produce discolored and/or cloudy water.

This is because water distribution systems will experience minerals and other inert materials from pipelines and treatment processes settling in the bottom of pipes. An increase in the velocity of water passing through a pipe with deposited materials can stir up the sediments and cause discolored and cloudy water for customers.

If you experience discolored or cloudy water during the next few days, please contact the Athens City Hall main telephone number at 903-675-5131.
