Residential and commercial garbage and recycling services are an essential part of keeping Athens beautiful and ensuring our local natural environment remains pristine.
Republic Waste Services provides all garbage and recycling services to residents and businesses within the City of Athens. If you have questions about your garbage service, please call City Hall at (903) 675-5131 or contact Republic Services directly at (903) 677-1276.
All residents are provided garbage and recycling services that are billed monthly with the City's water and sewer charges. These services total $15.56 per residence per month. Separately, the City of Athens collects a $0.25 fee per residential account and $0.50 fee per commercial account on a monthly basis for the administration of refuse services and billing.
Residents may set up garbage and recycling services at the same time they set up their water service. Each resident is provided one (1) refuse cart and one (1) recycling cart. An additional refuse cart may be requested for an added cost of $1.00 per residence per month.
